The medicine contains the active ingredient cyproterone acetate.
It is an antiandrogen. It inhibits the action of male sex hormones (androgens), which are also produced to a small extent by the female body. It also has a gestagenic and antigonadotropic effect.
In men, treatment with the drug reduces libido and potency, the function of the gonads is inhibited; these changes disappear again after discontinuation of use.
The drug protects androgen-dependent organs of success, such as: B. prostate, against androgens coming from the gonads and (or) the adrenal cortex.
In women, abnormal growth of body hair is reduced, as well as androgenic loss of scalp hair and the increased activity of the sebaceous glands is reduced. During treatment, ovarian function is inhibited.
With a man
the medicine is used for
palliative treatment of patients with secondary tumors or locally advanced inoperable prostate cancer,
If treatment with LHRH analogues (substances that reduce the production of sex hormones in the testicles) or surgery are insufficient, therapy cannot be used (contraindicated) or therapy during which the drug can be taken (oral therapy), which is preferable.
at the beginning of treatment with LHRH agonists to prevent adverse effects and complications that may be caused by the initial increase in serum testosterone (male sex hormone) levels.
for the treatment of hot flashes that occur during treatment with LHRH agonists or after testicular removal.
Suppressed drives with an increased desire for confirmation and sexual satisfaction (hypersexuality) and pathologically altered sexual desire (sexual deviations).
With a woman
The medicine is used for severe and very severe symptoms of androgenization (masculinization caused by certain hormones), such as
severe forms of androgen-dependent increase in hair on the face and body (high-grade hirsutism),
severe forms of androgen-related hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), often in combination with severe forms of acne and/or excessive activity of the sebaceous glands (seborrhea),
if cyproterone acetate in a lower dose or other antiandrogenic sex hormones are not effective enough.
The drug should not be taken to treat “suppression of desire due to hypersexuality and sexual deviations” in men.
if you are allergic to cyproterone acetate or any other ingredient of this medicine,
for liver diseases,
with Dubin-Johnson syndrome and Rotor syndrome (hereditary disorders of liver function in which the excretion of the erythrocyte pigment bilirubin is impaired),
with previous or existing liver tumors,
with known or suspected malignant diseases,
if you have been diagnosed with meningioma (usually a benign tumor of the meninges). Ask your doctor if you are unsure.
for severe chronic depression,
if you have had previous or existing thromboembolic events (events that affect circulation through the formation of a clot in the blood vessel),
in severe diabetes (diabetes mellitus) with vascular changes,
for sickle cell anemia,
in adolescents before the end of puberty and in children, since an adverse effect on the developing functional chains of the endocrine system and (or) linear growth cannot be excluded.
The medicine should not be taken for the “relief treatment of advanced prostate cancer” in men.
