The medicine is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) drug. It contains the female sex hormone estradiol.
It is used for hormone replacement therapy for symptoms caused by a deficiency of the female sex hormone estrogen in women after their last period (menopause).
The drug is used for:
Relief of postmenopausal symptoms.
During menopause, a woman’s production of estrogen in the body decreases. This can cause symptoms such as hot flashes in the face, neck, and chest (called hot flashes). It relieves these symptoms that occur after menopause. You will only be prescribed medication if your symptoms significantly affect your daily life.
The medicine cannot be taken
if the following points apply to you. If you are unsure whether this is the case, consult your doctor before taking the product.
You should not take the medicine if:
You are allergic to estradiol valerate or any other ingredient of this medicine.
You have, have had, or are suspected of having breast cancer.
You have a form of cancer that depends on estrogen to grow, for example. B. Cancer of the uterine mucosa (endometrium) or suspicion of it.
Vaginal bleeding of unknown cause occurs.
Untreated excessive thickening of the lining of the uterus (endometrial hyperplasia).
You have or have previously had a blood clot in a vein (thrombosis), for example. B. in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or in the lungs (pulmonary embolism).
You have a bleeding disorder (such as protein C deficiency, protein S deficiency, or antithrombin deficiency).
You have or have ever had a condition caused by blood clots in your arteries, such as: B. Heart attack, stroke, or attacks of chest pain with a feeling of tightness in the chest (angina).
You have or have ever had liver disease and your liver function tests have not yet returned to normal.
You have a rare inherited blood disorder called porphyria.
You have or have previously had a liver tumor (benign or malignant).
You have a congenital severe disorder of lipid metabolism.
If any of the above diseases occur for the first time while taking the drug, stop treatment immediately and consult a doctor immediately.
Always take this medication exactly as your doctor told you. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Your doctor will try to give you the minimum dose needed to treat your symptoms for the shortest time possible. Please talk to your doctor if you feel that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
The first tablet is taken from one of the boxes labeled with the day of the week the dose begins (e.g., “Mon” for Monday) and swallowed whole after a meal. You should then continue to take one tablet per day in the direction of the arrow.
If the package is used up after 21 days, you should take a break of at least one week before taking the next package.
If you have had your uterus removed or no longer have periods, you can start treatment any day.
If you have not had your uterus removed, treatment with the drug must be combined with progestogen for appropriate indications for at least 12-14 days a month or a 28-day cycle. Your doctor will prescribe the dosage, method and duration of use of this progestogen according to the instructions for the progestin.
The addition of a progestogen is not recommended for women who have had their uterus removed, unless colonization of the uterine lining outside the uterus (endometriosis) has been diagnosed.
Duration of use
The duration of use will be determined by your doctor.
If you took more than you should
Overdose may cause nausea and vomiting, as well as irregular bleeding. No special treatment is required, but if the disease occurs, you should consult a doctor.
If you forget to take it
Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose. Instead, continue treatment with the next tablet without taking the missed tablet. It is possible that breakthrough bleeding or spotting may occur if you do not take the pills regularly. If therapy is interrupted for a longer period, tell your doctor.
If you stop taking it
You should not interrupt or stop treatment without consulting your doctor. When stopping, expect withdrawal bleeding.
If you are scheduled for surgery
If you are scheduled for surgery, tell the doctor performing the surgery that you are taking this medication. You may need to stop taking the product 4 to 6 weeks before your scheduled surgery to reduce the risk of thrombosis. Ask your doctor when you can continue taking it.
