The medicine contains an estrogen and an antiandrogen.
It is used in women of childbearing age to treat skin conditions such as acne, very oily skin, and excessive hair growth. Because of its contraceptive properties, it should only be prescribed if your doctor thinks that hormonal contraceptive treatment is appropriate.
You should only take this medicine if your skin condition has not improved after using other acne treatments, including topical treatments and antibiotics.
If you are using the medicine to treat your skin, you should not take any other hormonal contraceptives at the same time.
If your skin condition has improved and you stop taking the medicine, you should return to your original/preferred method of contraception.
Skin Care
Androgens are hormones that stimulate hair growth and the oil glands in your skin. If you produce too many androgens or if you are sensitive to their effects, your sebaceous glands may produce too much sebum. This can
clog the sebaceous glands, which then become inflamed and form inflamed pimples. This medicine prevents androgens from affecting your skin and reduces the amount of androgens produced.
contraception
The medicine is a 21-day pill – you take one pill every day for 21 days. Then there are 7 days during which you do not take a pill. It will not protect you from sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia or HIV. Only using a condom can protect against these.
To prevent pregnancy, the medicine must be taken as directed.
It is important that you understand the benefits and risks of taking cyproterone acetate/ethinyl estradiol before you start taking it or if you decide to continue taking it. Although cyproterone acetate/ethinyl estradiol is suitable for most healthy women, it is not suitable for everyone.
Tell your doctor if you have any of the conditions or risk factors listed in the package insert.
Warning: Always consult a doctor before using medications.
