Cotrim forte-ratiopharm 800 mg/160 mg Tabletten 20 Stk.(Trimethoprim-160 mg/Sulfamethoxazol-800 mg/Cotrimoxazol-960 mg)

The drug is a combination of two drugs that inhibit the metabolism of folic acid (a water-soluble vitamin) in susceptible pathogens.
Used to treat infections (diseases caused by contagion) caused by pathogens sensitive to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and amenable to oral treatment:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
Pneumocystis jiroveci (PCP) pneumonia
Infections of the ear, nose and throat area (except tonsillitis caused by streptococci)
Infections of the kidneys and urinary tract (bladder, urethra), including short-term treatment and long-term preventive treatment against relapse of the disease.
Infections of the female and male genital organs, including prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland) and granuloma venereum (a chronic sexually transmitted disease) (syphilis, the so-called chancroid, is not recorded).
Gastrointestinal infections:
Shigellosis (bacterial dysentery), traveler’s diarrhea, typhoid fever.
For the following infections, cotrimoxazole (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) should be used only if other currently recommended antibiotics cannot be prescribed: typhoid fever, paratyphoid fevers A and B, Salmonella diarrhea (Salmonella enteritis) with a septic course of the disease (high temperature after bacteria penetrate into the blood) in people with weakened immune systems, patients.
Brucellosis (infectious disease transmitted by domestic animals)
Nocardiosis (an infectious disease that primarily affects immunocompromised patients)
false mycotic mycetoma (tissue nodules caused by bacteria)
South American blastomycosis (skin disease caused by fungi)
Notification:
Inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract caused by the so-called Salmonella enteritis should not be treated with the drug at all, since it does not affect the course of the disease and even prolongs the duration of elimination.
The medicine cannot be taken
if you have a hypersensitivity (allergy) to sulfa drugs, trimethoprim and related drugs (trimethoprim analogues, such as tetroxoprim) or any of the other ingredients
for erythema multiforme (severe redness and blistering of the skin), even if it has happened before
if you suffer from pathological changes in blood counts (decrease in platelets, some white blood cells, some forms of anemia)
for some red blood cell diseases (congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and hemoglobin abnormalities, such as Hb Cologne and Hb Zurich)
if you have kidney damage or severely reduced kidney function
if you have severe liver damage or impaired liver function (for example, acute liver inflammation).
if you suffer from acute porphyria (a disorder of the formation of red blood pigment).
in premature babies
in newborns with hyperbilirubinemia (increased levels of bilirubin, a bile pigment, in the blood) or with deficiency of erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
if you suffer from bone marrow inflammation. This disease is usually caused by pathogens, against which the medicine is often not effective enough. Therefore, the drug cannot be used for this disease.
