The drug is a combination of two drugs that inhibit the metabolism of folic acid by sensitive pathogens.
The drug is used for infections (diseases caused by contagious infections) with pathogens sensitive to sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
Pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis jiroveci.
Infections of the ear, nose and throat area (except tonsillitis caused by streptococci)
Infections of the kidneys and urinary tract (bladder, urethra)
Infections of the female and male genital organs, including prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland) and some sexually transmitted diseases (syphilis, the so-called chancroid, is not registered):
Granuloma venereum
Gastrointestinal infections:
Shigellosis (bacterial dysentery), traveler’s diarrhea, typhoid fever.
The drug should only be used for the following infections if other currently recommended antibiotics cannot be prescribed: typhoid fever, paratyphoid fevers A and B, Salmonella diarrhea (Salmonella enteritis) with a septic disease process (high temperature after bacteria enter the bloodstream) in patients. with a weakened immune system
Brucellosis (infectious disease transmitted by domestic animals)
Nocardiosis (an infectious disease that primarily affects immunocompromised patients)
false mycotic mycetoma (tissue nodules caused by bacteria)
South American blastomycosis (skin disease caused by fungi)
Notification:
Inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract caused by so-called Salmonella enteritis should not usually be treated with this drug, since it does not affect the course of the disease and even prolongs the duration of elimination (see above for exceptions).
The medicine is indicated for adults, adolescents, children and infants from 6 weeks of age.
The medicine cannot be used
if you are allergic to sulfonamide drugs, trimethoprim and related drugs (trimethoprim analogues, such as tetroxoprim), benzyl alcohol, or any other ingredient of this medicine.
for erythema multiforme exudative, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis and drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (severe illness with redness and blistering of the skin), even if they have already occurred previously.
if you suffer from pathological changes in blood counts (low platelet count or some white blood cells, some forms of anemia).
for certain red blood cell diseases (congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and hemoglobin abnormalities, such as Hb Cologne and Hb Zurich).
with kidney damage or a marked decrease in kidney function with creatinine clearance less than 15 ml/min (creatinine clearance is an indicator of kidney function).
if you have severe liver damage or impaired liver function (for example, acute liver inflammation).
if you suffer from acute porphyria (a disorder of the production of red blood pigment).
if you suffer from bone marrow inflammation. This disease is usually caused by pathogens, against which the drug is often not effective enough. Therefore, the medicine cannot be used for this disease.
in infants during the first 6 weeks of life.
in premature babies.
