Indication:
Cyproterone acetate belongs to a group of drugs called antiandrogens. This means that it suppresses the action of male sex hormones (androgens). It also reduces the amount of male sex hormones produced by the body.
The medicine is applied.
For men:
to relieve symptoms of prostate cancer if secondary tumors have formed and if treatment with other drugs that reduce the level of androgens in the body (LHRH-like substances) or surgical removal of the tumor is unsuccessful, impossible or undesirable.
for the treatment of symptoms (redness of the skin) that may occur in men as a result of hormonal treatment with substances similar to LHRH.
to treat hot flashes that may occur while being treated with other prostate cancer medications or after surgical castration in men.
to control libido in adult men with increased sexual desire (hypersexuality) and/or altered sexual desire.
For women:
for the treatment of severe symptoms of masculinization in women (such as unwanted hair growth, alopecia, acne).
Dosage:
Always take your medicine exactly as your doctor told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
People:
Prostate cancer:
The usual dose is 2 tablets 2–3 times a day (= 24 hours).
Do not interrupt treatment or reduce the dose after improvement occurs.
Initiation of treatment with LHRH-like substances:
The usual dose is 2 tablets 3 times a day (= 24 hours) for the first 5–7 days.
Then start hormonal treatment with substances like LHRH and continue taking them for another 3-4 weeks.
During treatment with LHRH-like substances, the doctor may reduce the dose to 2 tablets twice a day.
Treatment of hot flashes during hormonal treatment with LHRH-like substances or after surgical castration:
The usual dose is 2 tablets once or twice a day.
Increased sex drive (hypersexuality) or altered sex drive:
The usual dose is 1 tablet twice a day (= 24 hours). If necessary, the dose can be increased for a short period of time. In some cases, it may be necessary to reduce the dose to ½ tablet twice a day.
Your doctor will gradually reduce your dose until you reach the maintenance dose or when you stop treatment.
Women:
Dosage for women of childbearing age with regular menstrual cycles:
Treatment begins on the first day of menstrual bleeding (= 1st day of the cycle).
Take 2 tablets after meals from days 1 to 10 of the cycle.
In addition, you should take a suitable estrogen or progestin-estrogen combination (oral contraceptive, called the “pill”) from the first to the 21st day of the cycle. From the 22nd to the 28th day of the cycle (7). days) there is a break in taking the pills, during which bleeding usually occurs.
Exactly four weeks (full cycle) after the start of the first course, the next ten-day dose is started on the same day of the week. On this day you will also start taking oral contraceptives (“the pill”) again. If there is no bleeding, pregnancy must be ruled out before starting the next course of pills.
If improvement occurs, the doctor may reduce the dose to 1 or ½ tablet.
Dosage for women of childbearing age with irregular or absent menstrual periods:
If pregnancy is excluded, treatment can begin immediately as prescribed. Unlike women of childbearing age with regular menstruation, there is no reliable protection against pregnancy from the first day of treatment.
Therefore, it is necessary to use additional mechanical contraceptives (i.e., a barrier method, including a condom) until the oral contraceptive pill (“the pill”) has been taken for 14 consecutive days. The first day of treatment is considered the first day of the cycle. Further treatment is the same as for women with regular menstruation. During the break, withdrawal bleeding may occur.
Dosage for menopausal women who have stopped menstruating:
The recommended dose is ½ to 1 tablet per day (= 24 hours) for 21 days followed by a 7-day break. The medicine can be taken alone or together with a tablet. Next, the administration regimen is carried out in the same way as for women of childbearing age.
Dosage for women who have had their uterus removed:
The recommended dose is ½ to 1 tablet per day without a break or ½ to 1 tablet per day for 21 days followed by a 7-day break from taking tablets.
