Cyproterone acetate is an antiandrogen. Inhibits the action of male sex hormones (androgens). It also reduces the amount of male sex hormones produced by the body.
Cyproterone acetate protects androgen-dependent organs of success, such as: B. prostate, against androgens coming from the gonads and (or) the adrenal cortex.
Cyproterone acetate is used for the palliative treatment of patients with secondary tumors or locally advanced inoperable prostate cancer.
If treatment with LHRH analogues (substances that reduce the production of sex hormones in the testicles) or surgery are inadequate, therapy that can be taken with medication (oral therapy) cannot be used, but is preferred.
