The medicine contains the active ingredient domperidone, which belongs to a group of drugs called dopamine antagonists.
Domperidone helps food pass through the esophagus, stomach and intestines more quickly so that it does not stay in one place for too long. It also helps prevent food from entering the esophagus the wrong way.
Domperidone is used to treat nausea and vomiting in adults and children.
Domperidone should not be taken.
if you are hypersensitive to domperidone or any other ingredient of this medicine. Signs of an allergic reaction include: skin rash, difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling of the lips, face, throat, or tongue.
if you have black, tarry stools or notice blood in your stool. This may be a sign of stomach or intestinal bleeding.
if you suffer from intestinal obstruction or perforation.
if you suffer from a tumor of the pituitary gland (prolactinoma).
if you have moderate or severe liver disease.
if your ECG (electrocardiogram) indicates a heart problem called QT prolongation.
if you have or have had a problem in which your heart cannot pump blood around your body as well as it should (a condition called heart failure).
if you have a problem with low potassium or magnesium levels or high potassium levels in your blood.
if you are taking certain medications.
Do not take domperidone if any of the above apply to you. If you are unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Follow these instructions carefully unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the recommended dose is:
Adults and teenagers (12 years and older and weighing 35 kg or more)
The usual dose is one tablet up to three times a day, if possible before meals. Do not take more than three tablets (equivalent to 30 mg of domperidone) per day.
Children and young people from birth to a body weight of less than 35 kg.
The tablets are not suitable for children weighing less than 35 kg.
If domperidone is intended for children, ask your doctor about the pediatric formulation.
Patients with kidney disease
Your doctor may tell you to take a lower dose or take the medicine less often.
Duration of treatment:
Symptoms usually go away within 3 to 4 days after taking this medicine. Do not take domperidone for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor.
If you took more than you should
Tell your doctor, pharmacist, or poison control center right away if you have used or taken large amounts of domperidone, especially if a child has taken too much. In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment may be prescribed. Because a heart problem called QT prolongation may occur, ECG monitoring may be performed. Always take any remaining tablets, instructions for use and the folding box with you as this will make the tablets easier to identify.
Signs of overdose include feeling drowsy, confusion, uncontrolled movements (especially in children), including unusual eye or tongue movements, or abnormal posture (such as twisting the neck).
If you forget to take domperidone
Take the medicine as soon as you remember.
If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until the appointed time and then continue taking your tablets as usual. Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.
If you have more questions about using this medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
