The medicine contains estrogens, natural sex hormones found in the body, and belongs to a group of drugs called hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It compensates for the loss of estrogen and thereby reduces symptoms.
The drug is used to relieve menopausal symptoms (such as hot flashes) caused by estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women.
Experience in treating women over 65 years of age is limited.
The medicine cannot be used
if you have a hypersensitivity (allergy) to the active ingredient (estradiol) or any of the other ingredients of the medicine;
if you have had or currently have blood clots in one of the veins (in the legs or lungs: deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism);
if you have a bleeding disorder that is associated with a tendency to form blood clots (thrombophilia, such as protein C, protein S or antithrombin deficiency);
if you have a condition caused by blood clots in the arteries, such as: B. attacks of chest pain with a feeling of tightness in the chest (angina), a heart attack or stroke, or have recently occurred;
if you have or have had breast cancer or your doctor suspects that you may have breast cancer;
if you have uterine cancer or another cancer whose growth is stimulated by taking certain female sex hormones (estrogen-dependent cancer), or your doctor suspects that you have such a disease;
if you have excessive thickening of the lining of the uterus (endometrial hyperplasia) that has not yet been treated;
if you suffer from vaginal bleeding, the cause of which the doctor has not determined;
if you have or have had liver disease; In this case, the medicine should not be used until important liver parameters return to normal;
if you have a (hereditary) red blood pigment disorder (porphyria). Always use the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The individual dose can be from 0.5 to 3 g of gel per day.
The usual dose is 1.5 g of gel per day (3 presses of the dosing pump) and is applied for 24 to 28 days per month, followed by 2 to 7 days without treatment. Each press delivers a dose of 0.5 g of gel.
During a break in treatment, bleeding similar to menstruation may occur. This bleeding is normal and limited in nature.
Your doctor will prescribe medication according to your needs. He may change the dosage and duration of treatment depending on how you respond to therapy.
To treat your symptoms, your doctor will prescribe the lowest effective dose possible and the shortest possible duration of use.
Your doctor may also prescribe medication for you to take continuously.
In women with an intact uterus, supplemental progestogen is required for at least 12 days per cycle to prevent the risk of overdevelopment of the uterine lining (estrogen-induced endometrial hyperplasia).
Tell your doctor if you find that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.
Frequency of use:
The gel should be applied once a day, preferably in the morning or evening after washing.
Duration of treatment:
Follow your doctor’s instructions. He will decide on the duration of treatment and change it if necessary.
If you want to stop treatment before this time, you should talk to your doctor about it.
On average, a 50 g bottle is enough for a month’s treatment.
If you used more than you should
Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting and vaginal bleeding. No special treatment is required.
If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.
If you forgot to use it
Do not take a double dose if you forget the previous dose.
If you forget to use the gel on the prescribed day, apply the gel as soon as possible and continue treatment at the prescribed dose.
If you do not use the gel for several days, irregular bleeding may occur.
If you have any concerns, consult your doctor.
If you cancel your application
If treatment is stopped, signs of estrogen deficiency caused by menopause may return.
