Description
Januvia contains the active substance sitagliptin hydrochloride. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes and to improve glycemic control.
The writing
The active substance is sitagliptin.
Each tablet contains sitagliptin phosphate monohydrate, equivalent to 100 mg of sitagliptin.
Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose (E460), anhydrous calcium hydrogen phosphate (E341), sodium croscarmellose (E468), magnesium stearate (E470b), sodium stearyl fumarate, polyvinyl alcohol, macrogol 3350, talc (E553b), titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide red (E172) iron oxide yellow (E172)
Dosage

The dosage is determined by the doctor individually for the patient.
Januvia can be taken with or without food.
Action
Januvia belongs to a class of oral hypoglycemic agents called dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. The improvement in glycemic control observed with this medicinal product may be mediated by an increase in the level of active incretin hormones.
Sitagliptin improved glycemic control alone or as part of combination therapy in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Indications
Januvia is indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes to improve glycemic control:
as monotherapy
in two-component oral therapy in combination with: metformin, a sulfonylurea derivative, a receptor agonist that activates the proliferation of gamma-peroxisomes.
in triple oral therapy in combination with a sulfonylurea and metformin, a PPAR agonist and metformin.
Januvia is also indicated as an addition to insulin.
Contraindications
Do not use the drug in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the product, type 1 diabetes mellitus, acute pancreatitis, hypoglycemia, impaired renal function, bullous pemphigoid.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
The most common adverse reactions are hypoglycemia, headache, dizziness, constipation, itching.

Warnings and Precautions
Caution should be exercised, especially in patients with impaired renal function, type 1 diabetes mellitus, acute pancreatitis, hypoglycemia, impaired renal function, bullous pemphigoid.
Use of other medicines

It is especially important to know if the patient is taking: metformin, cyclosporine, digoxin.
