Method of action
How does the medication ingredient work?
The active substance is a synthetically produced thyroid hormone. A healthy thyroid gland in the human body produces two hormones that are important for metabolism. One is called levothyroxine or T4 and is a specific depot. If necessary, another, actually effective form is produced from it, the so-called liothyronine or T3.
Thyroid hormones are critical to the functioning of the human body’s metabolism. If the body does not produce them in sufficient quantities, they must be consumed regularly. Only the “spare form” is accepted – levothyroxine. This means the body can continue to convert it into liothyronine as needed.
