Contraindication
NIZORAL tablets are contraindicated in the following cases: In patients with known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or any of the excipients of this drug. In patients with acute or chronic liver disease. The simultaneous use of CYP3A4 substrates with NIZORAL is contraindicated. Increasing plasma concentrations of these agents may enhance or prolong both therapeutic and side effects to the extent that a potentially serious situation may arise. For example, elevated plasma concentrations of certain drugs can lead to QT prolongation and ventricular tachyarrhythmias, including cases of torsade de pointes and potentially fatal arrhythmias.
Therapeutic indications
Treatment and prevention of infections caused by the yeast Malassezia (formerly Pityrosporum), such as localized pityriasis versicolor, seborrheic dermatitis, and pityriasis versicolor of the head (dandruff).
