PROGLYCEM 25 is a medicine used to treat abnormally low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).
PROGLYCEM 25 is recommended for the treatment of abnormally low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) of various origins:
– Leucine-sensitive hypoglycemia;
– persistent hypoglycemia of childhood (PGHI), caused by increased release of pancreatic hormone (insulin);
– insulin-producing benign and malignant tumors of the pancreas;
– tumors located outside the pancreas, causing hypoglycemia;
– Hypoglycemia of unknown origin.
Compound:
The active ingredient is diazoxide. One hard capsule of PROGLICEM 25 contains 25 mg of diazoxide. Other ingredients: lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Eur.Ph.) and gelatin.
Application:
Always take this medication exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You should only take PROGLICEM 25 if your hypoglycemia is due to one of the reasons listed above. Long-term therapy with PROGLICEM 25 can only be carried out in life-threatening conditions for medical reasons, and also if other therapeutic measures or drugs do not help or cannot be used.
At the beginning of therapy, careful monitoring is necessary. The clinical response to PROGLICEM 25 and blood glucose levels should be closely monitored until your condition is sufficiently stabilized. In most cases this will happen within a few days. If treatment with PROGLICEM 25 does not produce an effect within 2–3 weeks, treatment should be discontinued.
The dosage of PROGLYCEM 25 should be adjusted based on the severity of your clinical picture (severity of the hypoglycemic condition, blood sugar level and clinical response).
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, dosage can initially begin with a daily dose of 5 mg/kg body weight. However, this dose can be increased to raise blood sugar levels to normal levels and solve the problem of low blood sugar.
The total dose should be administered in 2-3 doses with an interval of 8-12 hours.
Children with leucine-sensitive hypoglycemia (low blood sugar caused by leucine supplementation) may require 15 to 20 mg of diazoxide per kg of body weight. This total dose should also be divided into 2-3 separate doses throughout the day.
25 mg capsules are particularly suitable for precise dosing in children. In adults, 25 mg and 100 mg diazoxide capsules can be combined to achieve the most precise therapeutic adjustment.
Dose reduction is necessary in patients with reduced renal function.
PROGLICEM 25 capsules should not be taken lying down.
If possible, take the capsules whole after meals with plenty of liquid (preferably a glass of drinking water).
Storage:
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
