Calcitriol, the active ingredient of the drug, is a metabolite of vitamin D3. This is a biologically active form of vitamin D3, the so-called hormone D (calcium metabolism regulator).
The medicine is used for:
Bone changes in patients with chronic renal failure on dialysis, for example B. with an artificial kidney (renal osteodystrophy in patients with chronic renal failure)
Hypoparathyroidism (hypoparathyroidism)
Underactivity of the parathyroid gland may occur.
after surgery (postoperative hypoparathyroidism)
without an established cause (idiopathic hypoparathyroidism)
due to impaired phosphate metabolism (pseudohypoparathyroidism)
Hypophosphatemic rickets (so-called vitamin D-resistant rickets, a severe form of English disease that does not respond to vitamin D).
