It is indicated for the initiation of tumor regression (remission induction) as a component in oral, weakened combination therapies (e.g. with etoposide, thioguanine) in older, previously untreated patients with acute myeloid leukemias (AML, ANLL). However, intravenous chemotherapy is the first choice therapy in the treatment of AML to initiate tumor regression (remission induction)
