Indication:
- Vancomycin is an antibiotic that belongs to a group of antibiotics called “glycopeptides.” to be named. Vancomycin is used to kill certain bacteria that cause infections.
- Vancomycin is used in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older to treat mucosal infections of the small and large intestine (pseudomembranous colitis) caused by the bacterium Clostridium difficile.
- If you do not feel better or feel worse after 10 days, contact your doctor.
Dosage:
- Always take this medication exactly as described or prescribed by your doctor. If you are unsure, consult your doctor.
- The recommended dose is:
- Adults and young people (from 12 years old):
- The recommended dose is 125 mg every 6 hours. In some cases, your doctor may decide to prescribe you a higher daily dose — up to 500 mg every 6 hours. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 2 g.
- If you have previously had an infection of the mucous membrane of the small or large intestine, you may need a different dose and a different duration of therapy.
- Adults and young people (from 12 years old):
- The usual duration of therapy is 10 days, but may vary depending on the patient’s response to treatment.
