Indication :
- The drug is used to treat viral influenza (flu) in adults, adolescents, children and infants (including full-term newborns).
- It can be used if you have viral influenza symptoms and the influenza virus is known to be circulating in the population.
- It can also be prescribed for the prevention of viral influenza in adults, adolescents, children and infants 1 year of age and older on an individual basis. It can be used, for example, if you have been in contact with a person who has viral flu.
- In certain cases, it can be prescribed for prophylaxis in adults, adolescents, children and infants (including full-term newborns). For example, it may be used when there is a global epidemic of influenza virus (influenza virus pandemic) and the seasonal influenza vaccine may not provide sufficient protection.
- The drug contains oseltamivir, which belongs to a group of drugs called neuraminidase inhibitors. These medications stop the spread of the influenza virus in the body and help reduce or prevent symptoms of the influenza virus infection.
- Influenza, commonly called influenza, is an infection caused by a virus. Signs of the flu often include sudden fever (above 100°F), cough, runny or stuffy nose, headache, muscle aches and extreme fatigue. These symptoms can also be caused by other infections. True influenza infections occur only during annual outbreaks (epidemics) when influenza viruses spread through the local population. Outside of an epidemic, flu-like symptoms are usually caused by another illness.
